A new exhibit at the Myra Museum in Grand Forks tells the story of the American Indians who lived in the Red River Valley in the final decades before the white settlement. The exhibit explains how the Chippewa and their kinsmen, the Metis, displaced the Sioux as the owners of 11 million acres on both sides of the Red River. The Old Crossing Treaty of 1863 ceded the land to the US Government. Featured are a wide variety of Indian artifacts, images, art work, clothing and other items on loan from sources ranging from the Smithsonian Institution to local collectors. The museum is open from 1 to 5 p.m., seven days a week through September 15. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children 10-15 years, and free for children under 10 years accompanied by an adult.
