Simply grand events in Greater Grand Forks

What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail?


Would you take that acting class?  Learn to sing?  Try your hand at cabaret performing?  Simply awaken that creative muse who’s lain dormant for far too long? The Greater Grand Forks Community Theatre is offering theatre workshops for adults and children that are sure to chip away at a few things on some folks’ bucket lists — all in a safe, nonjudgemental environment meant to nurture the individual.  There are scene-study classes for ages 11 and up, singing for non-singers, cabaret showcases for adults, playwriting for 11-17, and even a special workshop for grandmothers, mothers, and daughters:  “Broads on the Boards.” In this workshop, funded by the EGF/GF Community Foundation Women’s Fund, participants will take an interesting life story, write it as a monologue, then perform it for a live audience on March 8th. Also this spring, children of military men and women who have been deployed will have the chance to tell their stories on stage in “Deployed,” in addition to a Native American Folk Stage workshop for American Indian children in which they will take cultural stories and bring them to life on stage.  This workshop is a partnership with the North Star Council and partially funded by EcoLab. Burning down the house


Have you taken in a show our two at the Greater Grand Forks Community Theatre (aka Fire Hall Theatre)?  If not, you don’t know what your missing.  This community organization has been a mainstay in Greater Grand Forks for 64 years, and produces a variety of shows that showcase the fabulous talent in our region. The 2011-2012 season has launched with some fabulous theater including: “Bell, Book & Candle” – October 13-29 (this week is the final showing) Gillian Holroyd is one of the few modern people who can actually cast spells and perform supernatural feats.  She casts a spell over an unattached publisher, Shepherd Henderson, partly because she is attracted to him.  He falls head over heals in love with her at once and wants to marry her.  But witches, unfortunately, cannot fall in love, and this minute imperfection leads to a number of difficulties.  Will Gillian choose love over tradition?  And will Shepherd choose a mortal woman over Gillian?  It’s a “Bewitching” predicament. “A Christmas Carol” – December 6-17 Focusing on Dickens’ powerful language, humor and warmth, this charming drama tells the story of the redemption of a human soul.  The play follows the ever-powerful story of Scrooge, …
