AlerusCenter

The Alerus Center, Grand Forks’ premiere entertainment and convention facility, is the perfect place to entertain and be entertained. Completed in 2001, with a recent remodel and new additions, it is considered one of the top arenas in the country.   The main arena, with a full set seating capacity of 21,000, has been used for a wide variety of events.   As home to Division I-AA University of North Dakota football, they’ve hosted many exciting college games, in addition to other sports ranging from Harlem Globetrotters and NBA basketball to professional bull riding and wrestling. Some of the most popular performers in the nation, including Luke Bryan, George Strait, Britney Spears, Keith Aerosmith, Cher, Keith Urban and The Eagles have all taken center stage at the Alerus. Because of the BOSE Quality Sound Systems they use, you’ll find the acoustics to be amazing, especially for such a large arena.   When you’re searching for a venue to hold a convention, conference, family gathering or wedding, the Alerus Center’s 12 meeting rooms and ballroom provide a perfect fit. The friendly, knowledgeable staff will be there every step of the way to ensure your event meets (and even exceeds) expectations.   The …

See true talent at the Chester Fritz Auditorium

Email
Untitled-3

Today’s blog is from Hailie Pelka, University of North Dakota student and Greater Grand Forks Convention & Visitors Bureau intern.   You don’t have to travel to New York or Chicago to see true talent. Since October of 1972 the Chester Fritz Auditorium has been home to traveling acts, nationally acclaimed and local performances. Programs vary from country western, ballet, Broadway Theatre, University of North Dakota ensembles and many more.   There is not a bad seat in the house. The Chester Fritz, holding up to 2,400 audience members, has a unique layout with the seats being relatively close to the stage even if you are sitting in the mezzanine or balcony. The seats are comfy and the staff is more than accommodating.   This year’s performances are flying by but there is still time to experience the beauty and talent that the Chester Fritz holds. Winner of four 2010 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Memphis: the Musical will grace the stage tonight, March 3, at 7:30 p.m. Simply Three will enhance your classical music experience on Thursday night, March 26, at 7:30 p.m. The Grand Forks Chorales and the University of North Dakota Department of Music present Felix Mendelssohn’s …

Country stars take the Grand stage

At a typical concert, the audience has a good time.  For me, however, the trademark of an awesome concert is when both the crowd and performers are all having a great time.  According to several rave reviews, both Eric Church and Luke Bryan definitely serve up the latter.  Even though both play in a new city almost every night, their strong, earnest voices and high energy level are said to be consistent with every performance.  That’s why we are so excited to announce that Church will be bringing his The Outsiders Tour to Ralph Engelstad Arena, on April 7, at 7:30 p.m.  Then on May 8, at 7:00 p.m., Bryan’s Kick Up the Dust Tour comes to the Alerus Center.   With a slew of Top 20 songs to his credit, Eric Church’s popularity continues soaring to new heights.  His 2013 release and top selling CD to-date, Chief, won ACM Album of the Year and spawned two #1 songs, “Springsteen” and “Drink In My Hand”.  Church knows how to be a rebellious rocker one moment, then turn around and wow the crowd with a sentimental ballad.  His mass appeal fills the seats with an eclectic mix of grandparents, tattooed teens …

Symphony Orchestra brings the music of our German ancestors to the stage this season

Untitled-3

Todays blog is from Michaela Schell, Grand Forks blogger and business woman.   Grand Forks is extremely lucky to have a symphony orchestra in our community. Not many communities our size showcase such amazing musical talent and performances. If you are looking for an evening celebrating the arts, attending a Greater Grand Forks Symphony Orchestra concert is an excellent pick.   GGFSO is a community orchestra that began in 1908. With the mission to improve lives in Grand Forks and its region, it continues to feature local and regional musicians in performances of classical and modern symphonic music.   This year the GGFSO announced a four-year goal to explore the heritage of our region through the music of composers who came from the same areas where our grandparents and great-grand parents came from. During the 2013-14 season, the group is featuring the German heritage we share. Upcoming years will highlight our Russian, Norwegian and American heritage.   This season the Symphony presents popular favorites showcasing UND stars Alexander Platt as Conductor with guest soloists Nariaki Sugiura on Piano and Ronnie Ingle on Trumpet. Their upcoming show on November 2nd features pops selections plus Artunian – Trumpet Concerto and Rachmaninov – …

Today’s blog is written by Michaela Schell, a local writer and business professional. Fresh off its biggest concert in the arena’s history, the Alerus Center brings yet another big name in country music to Grand Forks. Jason Aldean will fill the Alerus with chart topping tunes on March 23rd at 7:00 PM. He brings with him country star Jake Owen and new-comer Thomas Rhett.   Now, I’ll be honest, I like country music and have definitely heard of Jason Aldean, but if you asked me to name a song he sang, I couldn’t.  So, I googled him.   As I went down my google search list of Aldean’s songs, I quickly realized found myself saying “Oh, I love that song! I didn’t know Jason Aldean sang that!” Here are just a few of his many hits that you’ve likely heard and probably had stuck in your head a time or two. (Click the link to hear the song)   Hicktown Amarillo Sky Big Green Tractor Tattoos on This Town Fly Over States Take a Little Ride with Me Nine of Aldean’s singles have reached number one on the country charts and 16 have made it to the top 10. Aldean …
