This year marks the 53rd Anniversary of a SimplyGrand tradition known as Potato Bowl USA.  The week of September 18-22 will be filled with entertaining events centering on our region’s most popular staple crop.  Expect tons of tasty food including a potato pancake breakfast, baked potato bars and of course, the World’s Largest French Fry Feed & Fireworks display.   Friday offers up a great time for the little ones at the Get Wet & Run Wild! Kids Fun Run and some adult cheer that night during a “Rockin’ the Forks” party, in Town Square, featuring live music, food and beverages. If you’re a fan of one-of-a-kind finds, tasty eats and live tunes, make sure to clear some time on your calendar for this Friday and Saturday, September 7 and 8!  Why? Because that’s when the Downtown Development Association will host the 2018 Downtown Street Fair. From DeMers to Third, our Downtown District streets will be filled with great shopping, entertainment, food and fun galore.   This excellent event will feature talented artisans and vendors from around the United States and Canada. Here’s a sampling of the many already booked: Dakota Sun Gardens Winery; Dan Rocks ‘n Rolls; Gaga’s Gourmet; Happy Magnets; Hello Lucy and The Little Apiary. If you’re a fair food fan like me, I’m happy to report there is going to be a “Taste of the Fair” food experience! Just some of the delicious offerings will include samosas, poke bowls, pulled pork sandwiches, fresh-cut fries, crepes and kettle korn.   And the good times don’t end when the merchandise vendors shut down. Town Square will be rockin’ on Friday night with The Don Barstads and Stovepipes. A SimplyGrand du Soleil Production Is Coming Our Way

Yay, school’s out for the summer!  Uh-oh, now what am I gonna do?  If you’re looking for things to entertain kids, Greater Grand Forks has lots of options!   For outdoor fun, try Sherlock Forest Playground, Sherlock Park Pool or LaGrave Outdoor Skate Park, all located in East Grand Forks.  The Grand Forks Park District runs three outdoor spray parks (University Park, Elks Pool and Choice) plus the newly remodeled Riverside Pool and several playgrounds located throughout the city.  If you feel adventurous, rent a canoe from Boathouse on the Red and spend the day navigating our Red River of the North.  Just a short 22 miles west of Grand Forks on Highway 2, Turtle River State Park sponsors a summer series called “Dakota Explorers,” which is a hands-on environmental program for youngsters.  Summerthing Kids Family Fun Festival, Family Community Block Party and Sertoma’s 4th of July Festival all feature many different games and activities.   On rainy day or when the temp dips a little too low, just head inside.  The Canad Inns Destination Center features a tropical themed water park and mega arcade for both guests and non-guests.  Likewise, the new Choice Health & Fitness facility offers an …

What’s up is Downtown

No worries; Greater Grand Forks has lots of options to entertain kids.   For outdoor cold weather fun, try cross country skiing and sledding either on the Greenway or just 22 short miles west at Turtle River State Park. Sometimes simply strapping on some ice skates or building the biggest and best snowman ever in one of our beautiful local parks, followed by a cup of hot chocolate, is better than any event that requires admission.   When the temps dip below the freezing mark, just head inside! This popular catfishing tournament – taking place on our dirt-bottomed, north-flowing Red River – is celebrating its 30th year! Held the last weekend of July, in downtown East Grand Forks’ LaFave Park, Cats Incredible brings in top anglers from all over North America.
