Time to race around our towns


Time to strap on the sneaks (or inline skates) and take to the streets (or river)…several Greater Grand Forks outdoor athletic events are right around the corner! Whether a novice or old pro, we have the perfect race for you.   May 6: RED RIVER RUNNERS 1980s FUN RUN –> Join the Red River Runners at 8 AM, in Lincoln Drive Park, for a rad fun run! Dig out your best neon and get ready for a most excellent 5K with some of your fellow bodacious runners. Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes and light refreshments served.   May 6: DOWNTOWN DERBY RUN –> Beginning at 1 PM, in George Lee Park, this 1.25 mile Kentucky Derby distance race [individual or five-man relay team] is designed to celebrate spring. Participants are encouraged to dress up in Derby Style.   May 13: OFFICERS DOWN 5K –> The Officers Down 5K event supports our fallen law enforcement with the hopes of creating bonds and establishing trust between law enforcement and their respecting community. Taking it to the streets


Today’s blog comes from Stacy Kusler, local runner & Grand Forks Wild Hog Marathon Planning Committee member.   While summer is in its prime here in the region, many community members are already setting their sites on a late September weekend when a full marathon will return to Grand Forks, the home of North Dakota’s ORIGINAL full marathon!   The Wild Hog Marathon will be added to the lineup of races the weekend of September 23 and 24, 2016.  It will join the Greater Grand Forks Convention and Visitor’s Bureau Half Marathon, the Subway Restaurants 10k, the Alerus 5k and the Crary Real Estate Kids and Family Fun Run.  Runners will also have the option of pairing up with friends, family or co-workers to compete together in the full or half marathon by registering for one of the Stray Media Group Relay options.    As race organizers prepare to make this 26.2 mile leap, it is important to increase our community involvement both in terms of volunteers and support.  With the marathon, our runners will be out on the course longer and additional volunteer support on the course in the form of aid stations and intersection supervision will be needed to ensure …
