Today’s blog is brought to you Convention & Visitors Bureau Executive Director and Grand Forks native Julie Rygg.   There is a lot of buzz and excitement in Greater Grand Forks this week with the  2014 Grand Cities Art Fest, produced by North Valley Arts Council, taking place downtown on Saturday, June 14 and Sunday, June 15. With approximately 175 artist and craft vendors as well as great food and entertainment lined throughout the Greenway, Town Square and Cabela’s parking lot, the downtown will be alive with activity.   I look forward to Art Fest every year. I love to go and hear the music, nibble on treats and purchase fun art for my home and gifts. Of course, this event isn’t just for the adults. The kiddos love it too. My kids’ favorites are the bouncy houses, funnel cakes and unique kids’ items.   If you are new to Art Fest or come every year, you absolutely cannot miss “Arts in Action”. It is a wonderful opportunity to see amazing artists turn raw materials into  original works. This is fun for the whole family!   Admission and parking are free. If you would like to download the map, Art …

Every holiday season Lincoln Park is aglow with holiday light displays. The best part, you can see them all from your warm, cozy car! Lions’ Christmas in the Park hosts light displays sponsored by local businesses and organizations. Each year, businesses design a light display that is places along Lincoln Park Drive. Visitors to the park can then drive through the park loop and view all the displays. And, if you don’t mind a little winter chill, you can even pop on your cross-country skis or snowshoes (or rent some for the Lincoln Park warming house) and glide by the light display.   Lions’ Christmas in the Park is open until December 31, from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., with special hours extended to midnight on December 31. The cost is $5 per car, $10 per limosine and $20 per bus. Proceeds are used by the Lions Club to increase contributions to worthwhile charities and projects in the community.   Also in Lincoln Park is the extremely popular Santa’s Village. Each year Santa and his elves set up their workshop at the Lincoln Golf Course Clubhouse. Families are invited to come create crafts, play games, read a book with the …

Today’s blog is from Michaela Schell, local business person and blogger.   Most are familiar with Greater Grand Forks’ amazing shopping corridor along 32nd Avenue South. It’s hard to miss the big stores and great deals. But one area that is not as visible but equally amazing is Downtown Grand Forks and East Grand Forks. The streets are filled with small shops, boutiques, galleries, eateries and more, all locally owned and operated and unique to the Grand Cities.   Downtown you can easily walk from store to store and even take a quick walk over the Sorlie Bridge, check out the scenic Red River, and take a stroll along one of the beautiful paths along the Greenway.   First up, clothing. If you are looking for boutique style clothing, Downtown has a variety of new, on trend clothing stores for every style. Kittson and RH Standard offer trend setting clothing for fanshionistas. At Adley Anne’s you can find the cutest clothes for babies and toddlers along with materinity styles for moms-to-be. True Colors, a self-described “trendy, chic resale boutique” offers brand name clothes at reduced prices.   Between shopping stops, Downtown has a plethora of places to grab a bite …

Simply Grand Fall Fun

Email
Japanese Garden at Sertoma Park

Weather predictions for this week in Greater Grand Forks are good with beautiful fall temperatures and sunny skies, so I highly recommend you get out and enjoy some of the recreational opportunities offered here including our gorgeous and fun parks. Japanese Garden – This lovely garden, located in Sertoma Park, was a gift from the residents of Awano Japan to commemorate the flood of 1997. Its natural look features the beauty of rocks, water, hills, trees as well as the three granite Japanese-style lanterns. Ali’s Boundless Playground – Local teen Ali Karpenko was born with spina bifida, and her dream of a community playground for children with and without disabilities was realized in 2009 in Sertoma Park. Here every child can play side by side at his or her own ability level. Greenway – The Greenway is 2,200 acres of natural space lining the Red River and Red Lake River as they flow through Grand Forks and East Grand Forks. The picturesque urban space offers countless recreational, cultural, historical and natural experiences. These recreational areas give you just a taste of what is available in Greater Grand Forks. There are so many specialty parks available year-round for a variety of …
