Taking it to the streets

Today’s blog comes from Stacy Kusler, local runner & Grand Forks Wild Hog Marathon Planning Committee member.   While summer is in its prime here in the region, many community members are already setting their sites on a late September weekend when a full marathon will return to Grand Forks, the home of North Dakota’s ORIGINAL full marathon!   The Wild Hog Marathon will be added to the lineup of races the weekend of September 23 and 24, 2016.  It will join the Greater Grand Forks Convention and Visitor’s Bureau Half Marathon, the Subway Restaurants 10k, the Alerus 5k and the Crary Real Estate Kids and Family Fun Run.  Runners will also have the option of pairing up with friends, family or co-workers to compete together in the full or half marathon by registering for one of the Stray Media Group Relay options.    As race organizers prepare to make this 26.2 mile leap, it is important to increase our community involvement both in terms of volunteers and support.  With the marathon, our runners will be out on the course longer and additional volunteer support on the course in the form of aid stations and intersection supervision will be needed to ensure …

Tater time fun for tots and adults

This year marks the 50th Anniversary of a Greater Grand Forks tradition known as Potato Bowl USA.  The week of September 7-12 will be full of entertaining events centering on our region’s most popular staple crop.  There will be tons of great food including a potato pancake breakfast, baked potato bars and of course, the World’s Largest French Fry Feed.  The festivities culminate on Saturday with a parade, tailgate party and University of North Dakota football game.  Make sure to bring the whole family out to one of North Dakota’s best and tastiest celebrations guaranteed to be “spudtacular” fun for all!    Potato Bowl Highlights Tuesday, September 8 Golf Scramble – 11 a.m. at Valley Golf Course Wednesday, September 9 Potato Chip Giveaway – Scheels All Sports Thursday, September 10 Baked Potato Bar – 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at all Hugo’s locations JR Simplot World’s Largest French Fry Feed (food/soda stands, inflatable games, French fry eating contest, live music, meet the UND athletes) – 4:30 p.m. at University Park Rydell Fireworks Display – Dusk at UND Memorial Stadium Friday, September 11 Baked Potato Bar – 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at all Hugo’s locations UND Fan Luncheon – 11:30 …

A day for the girls at the Grand Forks Women’s Show

Today’s blog is written by local business woman and blogger, Michaela Schell.   Every so often, we ladies get a girls night out, but it is not very often we get an entire day out! Saturday, October 26th is that day. The Grand Forks Women’s Show returns for its 6th year and brings everything a woman could want. The GFWS packs the Alerus Center Arena with fashion and beauty, hobbies and careers, food and wine, and everything in between.   The GFWS Main Stage is full this year. The day starts with a yoga calss and demonstration from Choice Health & Fitness and the Altru YMCA. Guests are encouraged to jump in and participate. Marilyn Hagerty takes the stage at 11 a.m. for an interview on her new book. She will also share her various experiences on the Anderson Cooper Show, the Today Show and her trips to New York, At noon 401 E Engery of Grand Forks will give us 10 tips on keeping your home energy efficient and save money followed by a Zumba demonstrative from Choice Health & Fitness.   The final Main Stage event is one of the most popular. Celebrate the night 2011 and ring in 2012!

Are you looking for something to do on New Year’s Eve? Why not ring in the New Year at the Alerus Center with Celebrate the Night. Celebrate the Night is an alcohol-free event for the entire family. The event returns to the Alerus Center for another great year, with all events held under one roof. Celebrate the Night includes entertainment and activities for all ages. Food and drink will be available throughout the evening. The Alerus Center will have concession stands open for the event. They will have a variety of sandwiches, snacks and non-alcoholic drinks available for purchase. Wristbands for entry to the event are on sale at Hugo’s and Valley Dairy stores in the Grand Forks area. Advance cost for the wrist bands are $5 for all ages. The wrist bands will be $8 at the door. Advanced price wrist bands are also available online here. Search for Celebrate the Night. Print your receipt, bring it along on New Year’s Eve, and receive your wristband at the door. Volunteers are needed to help with the event.
