Have you ever wondered why racing is one of the world’s most popular spectator sports?  You won’t find the answer by watching premier racing on television…to truly experience all the action and excitement, you must see it live, up close and in person!   May through mid-September, River Cities Speedway revs up with the sights and sounds of NOSA Outlaw Sprints, WISSOTA Late Models, Midwest Modifieds and Street Stocks.  Every Friday, beginning with Hot Laps at 6 PM and a 7 PM Start Time, skilled regional drivers will battle for the checkered flag on one of the best 1/3-mile Bullring dirt and clay tracks in the nation.   While there, be sure to pick up a drink and some tasty eats (taco-in-a-bag and hot dogs are two favorites) from the concessions area or stop by the beer garden for an adult beverage.  A free treat also awaits the kids at the nightly candy toss.  Afterward, head over to the pits for an autographed picture of your favorite driver or stop by their souvenir shop and pick up a t-shirt.  If y’all are ready for an evening of nonstop thrills, it’s time to make tracks to the track!   Upcoming Special …

We kick off September with the Uff Da Mud Run on Saturday, obstacle racing Extreme North Dakota style. If you are visiting Grand Forks this weekend or already live here and are looking for something to do, look no further. Each week the Convention & Visitors Bureau will highlight the upcoming weekend’s special events.   The weekend of August 28 promises to be a big one! With all the UND students back and some great activities, the town is sure to be bustling with lots of excitement. There is still time to buy tickets, register or just plan to attend these events.   Friday, August 28   Def Leppard at the Alerus Center – Styx and Tesla are joining these classic rockers with a show that promises of night a great music. Tickets are still available through Ticketmaster at various price points. Yay, school’s out for the summer!  Uh-oh, now what am I gonna do?  If you’re looking for things to entertain kids, Greater Grand Forks has lots of options.    For outdoor fun, try the Sherlock Forest Playground, Sherlock Pool or the LaGrave Outdoor Skate Park, all located in East Grand Forks.  The Grand Forks Park District runs two outdoor splash parks, one in University Park and the other at Elks Pool, along with several playgrounds located throughout the city.  Turtle River State Park (just a short 22 miles west of Grand Forks) sponsors a summer series called “Dakota Explorers,” which is a hands-on environmental program for youngsters.   Family Fun Night, Grand Cities Art Fest and Sertoma Fun4th & Fireworks all feature many different games and activities.    On rainy day or when the temp dips a little too low, just head inside!  The Canad Inns Destination Center features a tropical themed water park and mega arcade for both guests and non-guests.  Likewise, the new Choice Health & Fitness facility offers an amazing water park and pool area, in addition to topnotch workout equipment and classes.  Pay a visit to the rock climbing wall located at the Grand Cities Mall or …

Appreciating our visitors during National Tourism Week

If you have kids – or you’re just a kid at heart – Greater Grand Forks has tons of awesome activities and events!   For outdoor fun, head to East Grand Forks and the brand new Sherlock Forest Playground.  There are also several other parks, on both sides of the river, with great play equipment, basketball hoops and areas to rollerblade, skateboard, fly a kite or simply just frolic in the sun.   Feel like staying indoors?  The Canad Inns Destination Center features an amazing water park and mega arcade for guests and non-guests alike.  Pay a visit to the Northern Lights Model Railroad Museum or stop by the rock climbing wall located in the Grand Cities Mall.  The First Seasons Community Center, sponsored by the Grand Forks Park District, offers indoor playground equipment and other fun things to occupy the day.  The whole family will want to explore the Cabela’s store in East Grand Forks.  It features a 10,000 gallon aquarium filled with indigenous fish, a trout stream and numerous wild game mounts.   There are also plenty of special events coming up that both children and adults will enjoy:   -Preschool Story Time, every Tuesday, Grand Forks Public …
