Today’s blog is from Michaela Schell, local business person and blogger.   Most are familiar with Greater Grand Forks’ amazing shopping corridor along 32nd Avenue South. It’s hard to miss the big stores and great deals. But one area that is not as visible but equally amazing is Downtown Grand Forks and East Grand Forks. The streets are filled with small shops, boutiques, galleries, eateries and more, all locally owned and operated and unique to the Grand Cities.   Downtown you can easily walk from store to store and even take a quick walk over the Sorlie Bridge, check out the scenic Red River, and take a stroll along one of the beautiful paths along the Greenway.   First up, clothing. If you are looking for boutique style clothing, Downtown has a variety of new, on trend clothing stores for every style. Kittson and RH Standard offer trend setting clothing for fanshionistas. At Adley Anne’s you can find the cutest clothes for babies and toddlers along with materinity styles for moms-to-be. True Colors, a self-described “trendy, chic resale boutique” offers brand name clothes at reduced prices.   Between shopping stops, Downtown has a plethora of places to grab a bite …

Exploring holiday shopping in Greater Grand Forks

Email
Untitled-3

Today’s post comes from Manitoba travel writer and blogger, Shel Zolkewich.   Listen closely. Can you hear them? Yes, those are Christmas carols wafting from the loud speaker in your favorite store and that means the season is upon us! Join us as we explore Grand Forks, North Dakota during the happiest of holiday seasons.   Where to Shop The store is big, bright and apparently a crowd favorite. The recently opening Hobby Lobby has no shortage of customers. That’s because it has something for everyone. Crafters will love it no matter what their passion: scrapbooking, doll making, woodworking, candle making or sewing – just to name a few. The selection of fabric along is a store in itself. The home decor side of things is just as impressive. Whether you want to fashion your own Christmas wreath or pick up something ready to go, the choices are endless. There are also dishes, trees, lights, fabric and likely the most extensive and unique collection of tree ornaments in town.   It’s likely not the first place you think of when it comes to Christmas, but you’d be missing out if you didn’t pop into this Menards. This favorite hardware store …

200 Rummage Sales all under one roof at the Anything Goes Sale

Email
Untitled-3

Today’s blog is written by Michaela Schell, a local writer and business professional.   I love rummage sales. Especially now when turning shabby into chic is super trendy. But, I’m not the best at actually going to rummage sales. It takes a lot of time to drive from place to place all over town to try to find that one item that catches my fancy.   But, Grand Forks has a cure for people like me who love to rummage but don’t have the time or energy to drive from sale to sale. The solution…the Anything Goes Sale at the Alerus Center!   The Anything Goes Sale, Flea Market and Swap Meet is just what its name implies. It is a little of everything all under one giant roof. Over two hundred vendors will fill the Alerus Center arena on Saturday, May 4th selling their no longer wanted treasures. Tables are filled with everything from clothing to jewelry, furniture to knick knacks.   My family and I have gone almost every year and always seem to find something unique and creative. Here are just a few of the cool things we have picked up at the sale…   I stumbled …
