Tater time fun for tots and adults

This year marks the 47th Anniversary of a Greater Grand Forks tradition known as Potato Bowl USA. This week (September 3-8) will be full of entertaining events centered around our region’s most popular staple crop. There will be tons of great food including a potato pancake breakfast, baked potato bars and of course, the World’s Largest French Fry Feed. The festivities culminate on Saturday with a parade, tailgate party and Unviersity of North Dakota football game. Putting the excitment on ice

Have you experienced the excitement of live NCAA Division I hockey yet this season? If not, there are plenty of chances to see all the action up close. Under the expert direction of head coach Brian Idalski, watch the University of North Dakota Women’s Hockey team this season as they skate, pass and shoot their way to victory.  With several top players returning, including former Olympians Monique and Jocelyn Lamoureax, UND is sure to see playoff action again this season. The University of North Dakota Men’s Hockey team, with veteran coach Dave Hakstol at the helm, is looking to repeat as WCHA champions.  The whole crowd will jump to their feet after every goal and with future NHL stars like Danny Kristo, Corban Knight and Derek Forbot on the ice, you’ll be cheering nonstop. As the tailgating presenting sponsor, the Greater Grand Forks Convention & Visitors Bureau is ready to get everyone revved up for the fast approaching University of North Dakota Football season by sponsoring the Simply Great Tailgate 2011 promotion and giveaway. Qualifying is easy. All you have to do is answer yes to both of the following questions. 1. Are you someone who would love to attend every UND Football home game? 2. Welcome back UND!

It is once again that time of year when the community begins bustling with new and returning college students moving into dorms and apartments as they begin a new year at the University of North Dakota!  It is definitely an exciting time as thousands come back to Greater Grand Forks! The official move in date is Friday, August 19, and parents and families will be wearing “Proud of my UND student” buttons as they explore our city.  We hope these families will be given a warm welcome to Greater Grand Forks.  These students and families mean so much to our community! There are a number of activites planned August 19-22 with classes starting on the 22nd.  A complete schedule of events can be found online. With the start of school the UND football season will be upon us!  The Greater Grand Forks Convention & Visitors Bureau is honored to be the sponsor of tailgating at the Alerus Center, and we will be doing some season ticket package giveaways, so be on the lookout!

UND Fighting Sioux headed to the NCAA Frozen Four

There’s still one more NCAA “Final Four” to take care of this season, but this one is on ice.  The Men’s Ice Hockey Division I Frozen Four takes place this weekend in St. Paul, MN.  While the first semifinal game will produce a team only making their second championship appearance, the second semifinal game produces a game rich in hockey history with Grand Forks’ very own UND Fighting Sioux. The Sioux have made 20 appearances at the Frozen Four and taken home the championship title five times.  Already the Sioux have had a winning year, which includes capturing the McNaughton Cup as the Western Collegiate Hockey Association’s (WCHA) regular season champions, they then went on to win the WCHA’s Final Five Championship Broadmoor trophy and continued with taking the NCAA Division Midwest Regional Championship. While many locals may head off to see the games in person, there will be plenty of opportunity to celebrate and cheer on the Sioux right here in Grand Forks.  The Ralph Engelstad Arena, which has been referred to as the most opulent college hockey arena in the US and home of the Sioux, will be hosting a Frozen Four viewing party for the semifinal game.  …
