Sadly, summer is coming to an end but in these two towns, we plan on sending that season out with a bang!  This weekend alone, here are just five of many SimplyGrand to-dos:   GET BOWLED OVER.  One of our region’s most popular festivals celebrating one of our most popular staple crops, Potato Bowl Week USA offers up a spudtacular time for all September 5-9! Some of the highlights include the World’s Largest French Fry Feed & Fireworks Display on Thursday and Get Wet & Run Wild! Kids Fun Run on Friday.  The week culminates Saturday with a Potato Pancake Breakfast (7:30 AM to 1 PM at Sons of Norway), Parade (10 AM down University Avenue), Tailgate Party (beginning at 8 AM in Alerus Center parking lot) and the 52nd Annual Potato Bowl Football Game featuring our UND Fighting Hawks taking on Missouri State (4 PM kick-off at Alerus Center).   STOP, SHOP & ROCK.  September 8 and 9, from 11 AM to 6 PM on Friday and 9 AM to 6 PM on Saturday, DeMers & 3rd will be hoppin’ during the 2nd Annual Downtown Street Fair!  Dozens of food trucks will be on hand, as well as a …

Time to race around our towns

Time to strap on the sneaks (or inline skates) and take to the streets (or river)…several Greater Grand Forks outdoor athletic events are right around the corner! Whether a novice or old pro, we have the perfect race for you.   May 6: RED RIVER RUNNERS 1980s FUN RUN –> Join the Red River Runners at 8 AM, in Lincoln Drive Park, for a rad fun run! Dig out your best neon and get ready for a most excellent 5K with some of your fellow bodacious runners. Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes and light refreshments served. redriverrunnersgf@gmail.com   May 6: DOWNTOWN DERBY RUN –> Beginning at 1 PM, in George Lee Park, this 1.25 mile Kentucky Derby distance race [individual or five-man relay team] is designed to celebrate spring. We kick off September with the Uff Da Mud Run on Saturday, obstacle racing Extreme North Dakota style. Your hosts, Ole and Lena invite you to participate in an extremely fun and challenging 5K course that will encompass roughly 20 obstacles as it winds its way along the Greenway in Greater Grand Forks.   Race categories: Solo adult, male or female Solo youth (13-17 years) Solo adult ELITE with cash prizes Family (one adult and up to two kids 6-12 years) Get registered today at http://endracing.com/uff-da!   Other events taking place include: Friday Night Races at River Cities Speedway – Every Friday beginning in April and running through mid-September River Cities Speedway, recently named No. 1 in the country for sprint car racing by PennLive.com, is alive with premier racing.
