Ideas for a SimplyGrand Mother’s Day

Email
Happy Mothers Day pink heart cupcake on white cupcake stand with greeting gift tag against a feminine pink background, with copy space for your text here.

Mom loved and raised you…time to raise the bar and show her just how much you appreciate and love her back! This Sunday, May 14, is Mother’s Day and the perfect chance to express your feelings. In case you forgot or haven’t figured out yet what to get her, here are just a half dozen suggestions:   One can never go wrong with dinner and a movie.  Take her to a special Mother’s Day Brunch at Hilton’s Garden Café, Ground Round, Eagle’s Crest Grill or Aroma Café at Ramada.  Follow that with a matinee of the popular new Amy Schumer-Goldie Hawn mother-daughter flick, “Snatched”, at River Cinema 15 or AMC Classic 10 Theater. A bouquet is ok but how about putting a new spin on it?  Escort mom to All Season’s Garden Center, tour her through the amazing greenhouse and then let her pick out a planter or two for her garden or patio. Is mom an 80s rocker babe, by chance?  A gift certificate from Darkside Tattoo plus tickets to the Poison concert, May 27, at Alerus Center, would be “nothin’ but a good time” for her. She put Pampers on you as a baby; so, pamper her with …

If you’re interested in doing some shopping but still want to enjoy the beautiful summer weather, then check out the popular Outdoor Farmers Market. It takes place every Saturday, mid-June through September, from 9 AM to 1:30 PM, in Town Square (corner of DeMers Avenue and 3rd Street). Vendors sell everything from fresh produce and flowers to home baked goods and salsas to handmade jewelry and pottery. You’ll also be able to enjoy an array of tantalizing concessions while enjoying some great live entertainment on the main stage. If you’d like to learn more about how our fabulous Forks were founded, guided Historical Walking Tours, “History Alive”, are held at 1 PM during every Farmers Market   While in the area, make sure to explore both of our beautiful downtowns – Grand Forks, North Dakota and East Grand Forks, Minnesota – and discover all they have to offer. Below are some suggestions for a day or two of fun:   Downtown Adventures:         Take a stroll through the streets and experience a place where the past and present meet. Historic buildings house 21st century businesses. Attractive public art captures the city’s history and natural surroundings in small “pocket parks” scattered throughout …

Holiday Spirit Abounds in Grand Forks

Email
Untitled-3

Today’s post comes from our friend Shel Zolkewich, Manitoba travel writer and blogger…   It’s nearly impossible not to feel the holiday spirit in Grand Forks. Take a peek inside any restaurant and you’ll see friends and family gathered inside sharing good cheer. Downtown, shop windows are dressed for the season with sparking white lights and likenesses of jolly Old St. Nick. And a long list of holiday events offer a welcome break from the hustle and bustle.   The Empire Theatre Company just wrapped up performances of the holiday classic A Christmas Carol. The production stayed true to its literary roots and steered clear of elaborate sets and special effects. The journey of Ebenezer Scrooge—expertly captured by Darin Kerr—reminds us all of some important lessons, at any time of the year. The Empire Arts Center hosts the Grand Forks Ballet Company for a Nutcracker Extravaganza as well as Joy to the World by the Greater Grand Forks Symphony Orchestra this weekend.   Shopping downtown in Grand Forks is a little like stepping back into a kinder, gentler time. Cozy boutiques entice visitors with cheery window displays and gifts you won’t find anywhere else. Pop into Whole Life for fashions, …

Today’s blog is from Michaela Schell, local business person and blogger.   Most are familiar with Greater Grand Forks’ amazing shopping corridor along 32nd Avenue South. It’s hard to miss the big stores and great deals. But one area that is not as visible but equally amazing is Downtown Grand Forks and East Grand Forks. The streets are filled with small shops, boutiques, galleries, eateries and more, all locally owned and operated and unique to the Grand Cities.   Downtown you can easily walk from store to store and even take a quick walk over the Sorlie Bridge, check out the scenic Red River, and take a stroll along one of the beautiful paths along the Greenway.   First up, clothing. If you are looking for boutique style clothing, Downtown has a variety of new, on trend clothing stores for every style. Kittson and RH Standard offer trend setting clothing for fanshionistas. At Adley Anne’s you can find the cutest clothes for babies and toddlers along with materinity styles for moms-to-be. True Colors, a self-described “trendy, chic resale boutique” offers brand name clothes at reduced prices.   Between shopping stops, Downtown has a plethora of places to grab a bite …
