Listed below is information for this summer’s schedule. Best of all, every excursion has a special theme that makes each one unique.
June 10, 10:30 AM to 12: 30 PM, Town Square – ART OF DOWNTOWN GRAND FORKS
Special feature: Public art located throughout downtown Grand Forks, including art-related events and projects inspired by local and regional artists.
June 24, 4 to 6 PM, Town Square – BEER & SALOONS OF GRAND FORKS
Special feature: Grand Forks has had a rich history involving beer, saloons and alcohol. This tour will include stops at local establishments that may require guess to be 21 years of age or older.
July 29, 3:30 to 5:30 PM, Town Square – GRAND RIVER CITY OF THE NORTH
Special feature: Our Red River of the North is the largest northern flowing river in the northern hemisphere. Grand Forks was founded, named and earned national attention because of our river; so, this tour is dedicated to the unique relationship our community has with our nearest body of water.
August 19, 1 to 3 PM, Town Square – NORTHERN NEIGHBORS SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY
Special feature: Look around town and you’ll find no shortage of Canadian license plates in our parking lots. Grand Forks loves our northern neighbors and this tour features unique influences Canada’s had on Grand Forks, from our beginnings as a fur trading post to today.
September 9, 8 to 10 AM, Central High School – CITY ON THE RICHEST SOIL ON EARTH
Special feature: The annual Potato Bowl Festival earned its name because Grand Forks was built on a foundation of the richest, most fertile cropland in the world. Agriculture shaped the upper Red River Valley and Grand Forks was the metropolitan hub of the region that made life in the northern Great Plains prosperous for thousands of settlers.
October 28, 6 to 8 PM, Town Square – HAUNTED LEGENDS OF GRAND FORKS
Special feature: Typically the most interesting buildings in a historic neighborhood feature memorable ghost stories and Grand Forks is no exception. This evening tour of the haunted history around Grand Forks will make stops at places where guests must be 21 and older.
November 11, 2 to 4 PM, East Grand Forks VFW Club – GRAND FORKS MILITARY HERITAGE
Special feature: Our cities are especially grateful for the sacrifices all service men, women and their families make to our country. On Veteran’s Day, be a part of this historic walking tour that pays tribute to our military heritage, from the American Civil War to the Grand Forks Air Force Base.
Organized by the Greater Grand Forks Young Professionals, Grand Forks Downtown Development Association and the Grand Forks Air Force Base, these Downtown Walking Tours are filled with fascinating stories, seemingly useless trivia and insight into upcoming activities around Greater Grand Forks. Tours will include 2 hours of walking/standing, with a total distance ranging between 1 and 1.5 miles. All attendees are encouraged to dress for the weather and routes that take you along sidewalks and The Greenway trail system.
