Throughout our two towns, we have several java joints (some locally owned, some national chains) ready to brew you up a cup of deliciousness.
Each has a little something different to offer…but all offer a great place to have a grand time.
This Grand Forks original is the only place in town that actually roasts their own beans. The Cowboy Coffee is my favorite blend and since they can bag it to-go, y’all can brew up a cup for yourself at home anytime. Make sure to also try one of their famous fresh baked caramel rolls or scones. Locations: 2100 S Columbia Rd; 4571 S Washington St; 2900 14thAve S
This popular regional chain has a variety of tasty coffee creations to either warm you up or cool you down. My top choices are the Northern Lite Latte, Peanut Butter Mocha and Iced Caramel High Rise. They even have drinks for little ones including a yummy Hot Chocolate and Strawberry Banana Smoothie. The South Columbia Road location also serves up fresh baked Einstein Bagels. Locations: 2400 S Washington St; 1225 S Columbia Rd; 1750 32ndAve S (Hugo’s); 2771 32nd Ave S (Hornbacher’s)
Along with hot drinks such as the White Chocolate Mocha and my top pick, Breve (espresso + steamed half & half), baristas at East Grand Forks’ premier coffeehouse also serve up cool brews including an amazing Iced Caramel Macchiato and Cookies ‘n’ Cream Big Train. For sweets lovers like me, the ginormous monster cookie, blueberry buttermilk muffin and cinnamon raisin pecan bread are the way to go. If you’re in a rush and/or don’t feel like getting out of the car, just spin in to the drive-through. Location: 321 DeMers Ave
Perusing our unique Downtown boutiques and need a break? Stop by The Ember for a cup and some conversation! The friendly volunteer baristas are there to serve both you and the community, as a portion of funds raised go toward local charities and organizations. With your freshly made drink in hand – perhaps a yummy lemon bar or piece of cheesecake, as well – head upstairs to the loft for a game of checkers or quick read from their mini library. You’ll also want to check Ember’s event calendar, as they frequently host performances by talented local musicians. Location: 324 Kittson Ave
Though Tim Horton’s may be most famous for melt-in-your-mouth donut bites called Timbits, their tall, dark (roast) and handsome coffee will make you swoon! Even without some sweet fried goodness to accompany it, Tim’s Joe is some of the best around. Chillax inside on a comfy couch or just pull up to the drive-through window. Location: 801 42nd St S
In addition to fresh-brewed java, this funky landmark Downtown coffeehouse (which once served as a bank for fur traders) offers up specialty drinks, bagels, sandwiches and pastries. They are also home to the World’s Smallest Art Gallery, featuring rotating works by talented local artists. In between sips, peruse through the souvenir/gift section and pick out a cool t-shirt or mug. Location: 324 Kittson Ave
