HEADLINE EVENTS

  • Star Wars Trivia Night @ Half Brothers Brewery: May 1st @ 6:00 PM:  Gather your friends and head over to Half Brothers for Star Wars Trivia Night. Prizes for winning teams!
  • May the 4th & Revenge of the 5th Star Wars Weekend: May 4th – May 5th @ 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM (both days): May the 4th Be With You and Revenge of the 5th. A galaxy far, far away is coming to the Grand Forks Public_! Celebrate Star Wars Weekend with Lightsaber classes, costume contest, games, food, photo booth and more. All ages are welcome.
  • Mother’s Day Storytime May 7th @ 6:30 PM – 7:00 PM: A special evening story time dedicated to moms.
  • Senior Social Hour May 17th @ 10:00 AM: A new program at the Grand Forks Public Library. We invite the Senior Citizen community to come to the library for a social hour with games (Yahtzee, Boggle, Bingo), crafts, door prizes, refreshments, oldie but goodie music, and a free large print book for each guest.
  • Library 119th Anniversary Celebration May 18th @ 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM: The Grand Forks Public Library has been serving our community since May 2nd, 1900. We’re celebrating our 119th Anniversary with carnival games, library history trivia, a bouncy house, a book sale, raffle prizes, and cake cutting ceremony (at noon). Join us in celebrating everything the library has to offer.
  • Friends Mini Book Sale May 18th @ 9:00 AM  – 4:00 PM: A mini version of the larger book sale. Will include adult fiction, mystery, and romance genres only. You can also pick up a Friends Book Tote bag for $10 at this sale.

SPECIAL PROGRAMING:

  • Sensory Activity Hour – May 3rd @ 10am Sensory Activity Hour is specifically geared towards our adult special needs patrons. Sensory Activity Hour includes craft activities, snacks, goodie bags, and a whole lotta fun!
  • NASA@My Library Early Out Event – May 8th @ 2pm The children’s department is venturing beyond our world this year. Join them on the first early out day of each month for a NASA@My Library event, take part in fun activities, explore space and learn something new!
  • READ Dogs – May 12th @ 2pm Join the Children's Department and enjoy a book with the R.E.A.D. dogs. The program provides opportunities for young readers to experience the support and encouragement of a R.E.A.D. dog. The R.E.A.D. program is for children up to grade five who are struggling or reluctant readers. Reading to a dog allows for a relaxed, non-threatening environment and is shown to boost confidence and self-esteem. The R.E.A.D. dogs are here the second Sunday of every month at 2:00 p.m. Each child reads to the dog for fifteen minutes.
  • Talking Shakespeare – May 15th @ 1pm A new program at the Grand Forks Public! The group will meet in the library meeting room the third Wednesday of every month at 1pm. May they will discuss Henry VIII about a king who grows in wisdom while firmly establishing the Tudor dynasty.
  • Free Family Movie Day – May 18th @ 2pm Showing: “The LEGO® Movie 2: The Second Part” reunites the heroes of Bricksburg in an all new action-packed adventure to save their beloved city. It’s been five years since everything was awesome and the citizens are facing a huge new threat: LEGO DUPLO® invaders from outer space, wrecking everything faster than they can rebuild. The battle to defeat them and restore harmony to the LEGO universe will take Emmet, Lucy, Batman and their friends to faraway, unexplored worlds, including a strange galaxy where everything is a musical. It will test their courage, creativity and Master Building skills, and reveal just how special they really are. All ages are welcome, children under the age of 13 need to be accompanied by an adult 18 years of age or older. Popcorn provided, just bring your own beverage!
  • Game of Thrones Trivia & Social Hour – May 19th @ 2pm “We drink and we know things…” If you’re a fan of the show then you need to be at the library for this event. We’ll have several mock-tails and trivia from the show only from seasons one through seven.
  • Gardening Club Planting Day – May 20th @ 6pm Gardening club will again be part of our Summer Reading program in June/July. Join us for this special kick off night to plant our gardens. All ages are welcome and we encourage both the older and younger generations to attend to share knowledge and a love of gardening.
