Sensory Story Hour – Dec. 7 @ 9:30 AM: A new program is starting in December! Sensory Storytime is specifically geared towards our adult special needs patrons. Sensory story time will include the reading of a story, a craft activity, snacks, goodie bags, and a whole lotta fun! The first storytime will feature “The Night Before Christmas”. Sensory story time will be a recurring program and take place the first Friday of each month.
STEM@My Library: Hour of Code – Dec. 9 @ 2 PM: Join the children’s department and dive into coding! This month’s STEM activity is an hour of code, learn the basics of coding and programming.
READ Dogs – Dec. 9 @ 2 PM: Join the Children's Department and enjoy a book with the R.E.A.D. dogs. The program provides opportunities for young readers to experience the support and encouragement of a R.E.A.D. dog. The R.E.A.D. program is for children up to grade five who are struggling or reluctant readers. Reading to a dog allows for a relaxed, non-threatening environment and is shown to boost confidence and self-esteem. The R.E.A.D. dogs are here the second Sunday of every month at 2 PM. Each child reads to the dog for fifteen minutes.
Library@701 – Dec. 11 @ 9 AM to 12 PM: Library resources are now available at the 701 Coworking space in downtown Grand Forks. A library computer with access to almost all library resources is available to any and all using the 701 Coworking Space. This allows access to the library’s vast online resources and various data bases. In addition to the computer the Community Engagement Librarian will be available the second Tuesday of each month from 9am to 12pm to assist individuals in several ways. The Library@701 project was created in an effort to reach younger adults in our community that may not know about the variety of resources available to them. It is part of a larger effort to bring the library outside of its own walls and provide a greater impact for the Grand Forks community.
Santa Storytime – Dec. 12 @ 2 PM: Join the children’s department for a special storytime, with a very special guest! Santa is coming to read a story about the Christmas tree, and of course there will be cookies and cocoa! All ages are welcome for this special storytime.
NASA@My Library Early Out Event – Dec. 12 @ 2 PM: The children’s department is venturing beyond our world this year. Join them on the first early out day of each month for a NASA@My Library event, take part in fun activities, explore space and learn something new!
Free Movie – Dec. 15 @ 2 PM: It’s a classic big foot tale, flipped on its head. About Migo a Yeti who discovers something he didn’t know existed – a human! All ages are welcome, children under the age of 13 need to be accompanied by an adult 18 years of age or older. Popcorn provided, just bring your own beverage!
Winter Reading Program – Dec. 21 thru Feb. 15: The Winter Reading Program in conjunction with UND Athletics kicks off on December 21st. The program is free and open to all children age two through eighth grade. No registration is needed, simply stop by the GF Public Children’s Library and pick up an activity sheet, once the sheet is full bring it back and turn it in for a FREE mini basketball and a free ticket voucher to the Feb. 16th UND Women’s Basketball game. The last day to turn in activity sheets is Feb. 15th.
