Tween Tuesdays – Nov. 5th, 12th, 19th, & 26th @ 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM: Join us every Tuesday for a special event just for 10 - 12 year olds. Each week will be different from crafts to competitions and edible creations to minute-to-win-it! November’s line up includes: Black Light Painting, Eye Candy Art & Eat, Minute-to-Win-It, and Henna Hands.
Drop in Tutoring – Nov. 6th, 13th, & 20th@ 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM: Mayville State students in collaboration with the library will offer tutoring in the evenings at the library. Each Wednesday starting at 6:00 PM tutors will be available to help with homework (K-12), reading, English learning, practicing social conversations, studying for citizenship tests, studying for driver’s license exams, and filling out job applications. Tutoring begins Sept. 11th and will continue throughout the school year.
Holiday Craft Series – Nov. 9th, 16th, 23rd, & 30th @ 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM: A full month of unique crafts and homemade goodness. Join us on Saturdays in the library to create items for gifts, items for yourself, or simply to learn a new skill and spend time meeting new friends. 2019’s series will include a paint pouring class (9th), a handmade journal class (16th), soup in a jar (23rd), and DIY Bath Bombs (30th). Each class is limited to 25 people, ages 13 and up, all supplies will be provided. Please register online at gflibrary.com.
NaNoWriMo Write-In – Nov. 18th @ 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM: Writing a novel or want to write a novel? Then NaNoWriMo is the event for you, National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is the whole month of November where writers of all levels are challenged to write 50,000 words! Northern Ink Writers Group participates in this challenge by offering a community of support, encouragement, and time spent with writers of all skill sets during their annual all day write in. Refreshments and a quiet space to let your creativity soar are provided.
Kids Craft Camp: Fall Edition – Nov. 23rd @ 2:00 PM: Join us at the Library to create festive fall crafts! Ages 4-10. Sign up is necessary. Please call the library to reserve your space! Children 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
STEAM Kids (Early out Day) – Nov. 13th & 27th @ 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM: School’s out early so head to the library for some fun with science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics! STEAM Kids activities will meet on Early Out days, each day will be different and a whole lot of fun! In November we will be exploring moon craters, and the power of magnetism.
Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Movie Night – Nov. 16th @ 5:00 PM: As part of our work to help in the fight against Hunger and Homelessness, GFP will host a showing of “The Public” & welcome guest speaker Sue Shirek from the Northlands Rescue Mission. Light refreshments will be served.
Family Movie Day – Nov. 16th @ 2:00 PM – 4:30 PM: Featuring The Lion King (PG). A young lion returns to reclaim the throne that was stolen from him and his father by his treacherous and fratricidal uncle after spending his childhood in exile under the care of a friendly warthog and meerkat. All ages are welcome, children under the age of 13 need to be accompanied by an adult 18 years of age or older. Popcorn provided, just bring your own beverage!
Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Community Expo – Nov. 19th @ 2:00 PM: Make a trip to the library to visit our Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Community Expo. The expo brings together several organizations that work in Grand Forks to help end hunger and homelessness in our community. Organizations attending include: Salvation Army, St. Joseph’s Social Care, Hope Center Food Pantry, Mountainbrook, Northeast Human Services, Great Plains Food Bank, & Grand Forks Police Department.
International Games Week – Nov. 3rd, 6th, & 9th @ Various Times: International Games Week is dedicated to the fun and connections that come from good ol’ board games. Celebrate with the Grand Forks Public Library throughout the week. November 3rd, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM enjoy giant yard games and refreshments. November 6th from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM, Broken Sentry Games will host an RPG One-Shot Game Night, seating is limited, please register online at gflibrary.com. We’ll close out the week on November 9th with all day game play from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, board games and Wii Bowling will be available all day and a Mario Kart Tournament will begin at noon, registration for Mario Kart Tournament will be at 11:30 AM on the 9th, all ages are welcome to register. GFP Friends 3rd Annual 6-Word Story Contest – Nov. 1st – 15th: In honor of the popular Ernest Hemingway six word story legend, we invite you to participate in the 3rd Annual Six Word Story Contest, presented by the GFP Friends Group and write your own six word masterpiece! The contest runs the 1st through the 15th and 4 winners will be chosen. Enter online or in the library, rules and details are available online at gflibrary.com or in the library.
