Since moving to Grand Forks for college, I’ve discovered lots of must-visit favorite places that I’ve brought my friends and family to - from coffee shops to study to the Greenway to get moving, there’s so many hidden gems that Grand Forks has to offer! FOODIE

My go-to place to grab a bite to eat, a fun drink, and study all in one is definitely Urban Stampede! Urban has everything you could want in a coffee shop; good vibes, even better bagels, and the perfect atmosphere. During the school year, you’ll often find me there catching up with friends, playing board games, or studying for my next test. They have drinks for all types of weather, food for any mood, and the art displayed all over the cafe only adds to their charm. I have taken many friends and family members to Urban so that they can love it as much as I do. - Another one of my favorites has to be Red Pepper. When I meet UND alumni anywhere and everywhere, the first question I almost always get asked is “is the Red Pepper still there?” I love going with my friends after hockey games and tailgates, and it’s clearly a generational favorite!

GETTING ACTIVE

As a runner, I really love how run-able Grand Forks is, but nothing takes the cake like the Greenway. It’s well maintained, safe, and shaded, and whenever I run there I see so many people; other runners, golfers, and families, and it makes me remember how incredibly lucky we are as a community to have such an amazing place to enjoy being outside and get moving!

The Wellness Center at UND has the Outpost, a one-stop shop for anyone in the community who wants to rent outdoor equipment! They have a wide selection of items such as skis, camping gear, and kayak; things to adventure near and afar. If you’re looking for an outdoor adventure, the Welly is the place to go get what you need.

THE ALERUS & RALPH

As a student, I love sporting events. Tailgating before a football game is a must-do fall activity, and one of my favorite football memories is UND beating NDSU my freshman year. I don’t come from an area where hockey is a big deal, so going to hockey games is extra special to me, and knowing that UND has one of the best college fan bases makes it even better. On top of sporting events, I’ve gotten to go to additional events at the Alerus, like Kane Brown during his In the Air tour, Professional Bull Riders (PBR), and the Time Out Wacipi Powwow. Hosting these events not only brings Grand Forks closer together, but brings others here so that they can also see what’s special!

There are so many hidden gems in Grand Forks that anyone can see; indoor and outdoor, any month of the year, there’s always something to do!

Joslyn Sutton is a junior at the University of North Dakota majoring in Air Traffic Management and minoring in Meteorology and Space Studies. She is a Virginia native and loves planes, stormchasing, running, and reading! She is the current Student Body Vice President at the UND and is also involved in her sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta, Letters of Love (an organization that creates and donates cards to children in hospitals), and the Student Air Traffic Controllers Association.
