Mayor’s Choice Gallery

The Public Arts Commission proudly announces the exhibition Icons of Grand Forks by The North Star Quilters Guild and the River Forks Watercolor Society - The Mayor’s Choice Artist Exhibit will be shown at City Hall, Grand Forks ND beginning on December 14, 2022.

Autumn, In Grand Forks is a photo-poem collection consisting of thirteen photos and eleven concrete poems. These photo-poems exist as pairings of text and visual in a way that encourages the viewer to "read" the photos as poems and "see" the poems as visual art. This melding of mediums embodies the spirit of play and exploration at the heart of the collection.

Watercolor Artists and Quilters Unite

River Forks Watercolor Society invited the North Star Quilters to view their 2016 show. Quilters were invited to select one of their paintings to serve as inspiration for a quilt. This collaboration was exhibited at Quilts on the Red Quilt Show, here in Grand Forks, in 2017.
Fast Forward to 2019, the quilters returned the invitation by hosting the artists and challenging them to create a piece of art inspired by their quilts.
The pandemic changed the format of the process for the groups next meet up in 2021. The watercolor artists created a list of places of local interest. The list contained the landmarks of Grand Forks and East Grand Forks. Each artist created their work at home, without seeing their partners work until it was exhibited at the Quilts on the Red Quilt show. Mayor Bochenski was invited to view this exciting pairing, and as a result invited the groups to hang in City Hall as his Mayor’s Choice.
