Our two towns provide residents and visitors alike numerous opportunities to have a grand time in the great outdoors. Whether you want to pretend you’re legendary like Wayne Gretzky or Michelle Kwan, both the Grand Forks and East Grand Forks Park Districts offer scheduled times for open skating. If you’d rather do circle eights Downtown, the Town Square Ice Rink is just your cup of tea (or hot chocolate). Warm up afterward with your beverage of choice at a nearby coffeehouse: Bully Brew, The Ember or Urban Stampede. The whole family can also take in a day of sledding or cross-country skiing in Lincoln Drive Park.
If it’s blustery outside, then head inside and give bowling a try at Red Ray Lanes. The kids will most definitely enjoy splashing around in our water parks: Canad Inns Destination Center and Choice Health & Fitness. Open from 5 AM till 8 PM, Choice also features basketball, racquetball and tennis courts, fitness classes and a Kids Zone interactive play area. Northern Air Family Fun Center will be open from 1 to 7 PM and features a trampoline park, inflatables, laser tag, 30+ game arcade and Hologate Virtual Reality. Don’t forget to take a spin through Lincoln Drive Park, between 5:30 PM and Midnight, to check out the annual Lions Christmas in the Park light display.
Adults 18 and over can experience a fabulous time during the New Year’s Eve Cabaret Drag Show at Ramada Inn. Along with a little dancing and whole lotta campy lip-syncing shenanigans, those of age may indulge in some cool cocktail creations. Doors open at 7 PM; show time is 9 PM. Partiers 21+ are invited to Shotgun Sally’s Rock N Roll Saloon for a New Year’s Eve Bash featuring popular group Rhyme or Reason. Live music, great food and drink specials, plus lots more fun runs from 9 PM to 2 AM. Our trendy Downtown District also offers up plenty of ways to imbibe and dine deliciously at popular local establishments like The Toasted Frog, Half Brothers Brewing Company, Sky’s Cloud 9, Brick & Barley, Rhombus Guys, The Loft, Blue Moose Bar & Grill, Up North Pizza Pub and many more.
