Good eats along the Boardwalk

Email
Untitled-3

Today’s blog is brought to us from travel and food writer/blogger Shel Zolkewich from Winnipeg. Shel is a great friend to Greater Grand Forks!   The other day, my sister-in-law Mandy asked a tough question. “What’s your favourite place to eat in Grand Forks?” I was speechless. Images of pan-fried walleye, towering burgers and lemongrass-scented pad Thai danced in my head. It was like trying to name which of your children you loved best. Impossible.   So in lieu of singling out just one, here are a couple from my ever-growing list of good eats in Grand Forks. This pair of stars sit on the east side of the Red River, on the Minnesota side on a stretch of restaurants called the Boardwalk. If there’s not a seat to be had at one, stroll over to the next one. You won’t be disappointed.   The Blue Moose   If you’re in search of a restaurant that brings the comfortable North Dakota/Minnesota feel to the table, The Blue Moose is it. It’s seldom we don’t visit the city without making a stop here.   For those who like to sample more than one flavour, the tapas menu is just for you. …

Today’s blog is from Michaela Schell, local business person and blogger.   Most are familiar with Greater Grand Forks’ amazing shopping corridor along 32nd Avenue South. It’s hard to miss the big stores and great deals. But one area that is not as visible but equally amazing is Downtown Grand Forks and East Grand Forks. The streets are filled with small shops, boutiques, galleries, eateries and more, all locally owned and operated and unique to the Grand Cities.   Downtown you can easily walk from store to store and even take a quick walk over the Sorlie Bridge, check out the scenic Red River, and take a stroll along one of the beautiful paths along the Greenway.   First up, clothing. If you are looking for boutique style clothing, Downtown has a variety of new, on trend clothing stores for every style. Kittson and RH Standard offer trend setting clothing for fanshionistas. At Adley Anne’s you can find the cutest clothes for babies and toddlers along with materinity styles for moms-to-be. True Colors, a self-described “trendy, chic resale boutique” offers brand name clothes at reduced prices.   Between shopping stops, Downtown has a plethora of places to grab a bite …

Today’s blogger is Shelley from the Greater Grand Forks Convention & Visitors Bureau. She writes about the last Art & Wine Walk she attended in June. The next one is this Saturday, July 21, at 1 p.m.   Who doesn’t enjoy sipping flavorful wines on a beautiful summer day…especially when you’re able to view wonderful works of art and do some shopping at the same time?  If that sounds like fun to you, too, make sure and check out the next Art & Wine Walk on July 21.   This distinctive event happens every year, June through October, on the third Saturday of each month.  It runs from 1 to 5 p.m. and takes place solely in Greater Grand Forks’ beautiful downtown district.  To begin, simply head to one of the starting points – the Blue Moose Bar & Grill or GuestHouse Inn – and purchase a wristband and map of participating businesses.  The cost is just $15, which is quite a deal considering you get four hours of great entertainment and wine, of course!   I’ve always considered myself more of a sassy white girl (at least when it comes to my wine choices) so I preferred locations serving …
