Six picks for wintertime fun in the Forks

Just because hot summer days are a ways away, doesn’t mean there’s no place around these parts to play! Greater Grand Forks has gotcha covered with plentiful options for keeping folks of any age amused.

Here are a half dozen suggestions to help lose those winter blues.

Score a winning time at the Ralph. 

Around here, game night at Ralph Engelstad Arena is a must-experience event. Home to championship University of North Dakota hockey, watch future NHL stars shoot and score while the crowd roars with excitement! In between periods, explore this amazing 400,00 square foot, five-story arena. Make sure to grab a snack and beverage at one of the numerous concession areas serving up lots of tasty treats. Upcoming series are on February 23/24 vs. Minnesota Duluth and March 1/2 vs. Western Michigan.

UND Men's Hockey at Ralph Engelstad Arena

Great times in the grand outdoors.

Located Downtown on the corner of DeMers Avenue and 3rd Street, Town Square Ice Rink is the perfect place to attempt your best flying camel spin, enjoy a pick-up hockey game or try your hand at broomball. The scenic Greenway trail system features 20 miles of groomed paths offering four seasons of fun. During winter months, it supplies perfect places for sledding, skating, skiing, snowshoeing and ice fishing. Thaw out afterward with one of Half Brothers in-house beers or grab a caffeine infused brew at Urban Stampede Coffeehouse.

The whole fam bam will have a blast jumping for joy at Northern Air Action Park! North Dakota’s top indoor trampoline park, this large complex contains a 10,000 square foot jump area complete with numerous trampolines, two dodgeball courts, a foam pit and dunk station. Northern Air also has a 30+ game arcade, laser tag, Hologate Virtual Reality and the region’s premier multi-level indoor karting track. Those 21 and over will enjoy the axe throwing area, complete with adult beverages and food.

Be entertained at Alerus Center.  

The stellar staff at Alerus Center have lined up a variety of awesome events that truly offer something for everyone! A few of the upcoming concerts include TobyMac’s Hits Deep Tour on February 28, Journey + Toto on March 2 and Chris Stapleton on April 4. Other hot tickets are The Grand Outdoors Show (February 16-18), Jurassic Quest (February 23-35), Harlem Globetrotters (April 1) and Spirit of America Motorcycle & Car Show (April 13-14).

PlayIT Multi-Sport Complex is the place to go for those looking to work up a sweat in winter months. Just some of the indoor activities you can partake in are pickleball, basketball, roller skating, simulated golf and hitting one out of the park at the batting cages. Enjoy a standing O show. 

While at the iconic Chester Fritz Auditorium, watch the curtain go up on an array of national and international touring productions including several Broadway shows. Overtaking the Fritz stage, February 7, is the legendary “Jesus Christ Superstar”. That’s followed by “The Simon & Garfunkel Story” on March 12 and “Pretty Woman: The Musical” on April 10. Before or after the show, be sure to walk the hallways and check out all the signed posters of famous past performers who have appeared here over numerous decades.
