Looking for a great family night out that won’t break the bank?  Just park it…at the annual MOVIES IN THE PARK summer series! All you need is a lawn chair or blanket and a few of your favorite people. Even though the outdoor venue changes from flick to flick, it’s always the same great price: FREE! However, you may wanna bring along a few bucks, as various food trucks will be on site serving up tasty eats. Each show will begin at dusk.   Following is the remaining 2016 schedule of movies and locations: July 18 – “Hotel Transylvania 2″ at Riverside Park July 26 – “Cinderella” at University Park August 9 – “Inside Out” at Riverside Park August 23 – “Planes, Fire & Rescue” at Choice Health & Fitness green space For additional information, please contact the Grand Forks Park District at 701-746-2750.

Summer in Grand Forks!

Today’s blog comes from Shel Zolkewich, travel writer from Manitoba and friend of Greater Grand Forks.   What could be better than summer sunshine and an outdoor swimming pool? Two outdoor swimming pools, that’s what! We often visit the massive outdoor pool at Sherlock Park in East Grand Forks (500 Block and 4th Avenue NW, East Grand Forks, Minnesota). Last fall, we stumbled upon a second outdoor pool. The Riverside Park and Pool (1801 North 1st Street, Grand Forks, North Dakota) is virtually identical to the one in Sherlock Park. A Saturday afternoon at either offers tan lines and endless summer fun.   Both pools are big! There seems to be room for everyone no matter how busy the day gets. Each also has a kiddie wading pool designed to keep the wee ones cool. There are some chairs and loungers around the pools but spreading your towel on the concrete works too. A small water slide at each pool offers a quick entry into the water. But the crowning glory of these pools are the springboards. Each has two perched over a deep section of the pool for fancy diving or amusing belly flops.   Adult admission is $3 …

It has been a busy summer in the Grand Cities; school has started and the UND students have all moved back, and we are on the heels of a fabulous Grand Forks weekend with the first-ever Rollin’ on the River Inline Marathon (the Convention & Visitors Bureau was the presenting sponsor by the way) and a record breaking attendance for the last of the 2011 three-part music series, Blues on the Red.  It may have some asking what do we do now?  The answer is PLENTY!  I am going to just give you a brief taste of some of the great events coming up (details and more events can be found on our Calendar of Events) in September: -UND Football season opener vs. Drake September 1 at the Alerus Center (don’t miss tailgating, as the presenting sponsor, the Convention & Visitors Bureau is giving away a great prize package) -Friday Night Races at the River Cities Speedway through September 16 -Outdoor Farmer’s Market in Town Square through September 24 -Choice Financial 10K Fun Run/Walk Setember 10 -Tour de Forks Bike Ride & Walk in Lincoln Drive Park on September 11 -AudioBody at the Chester Fritz on September 11 -Art & …
