Valentine’s Day is fast approaching.
Don’t have any plans yet with your significant other? Well then, you best read on! Luckily, Greater Grand Forks has lots of great date options and here are my Top 5:
Drive your date to downtown East Grand Forks for a romantic movie and some ‘heart’y food. Start out the evening with an earlier showing at River Cinema 15, perhaps in one of the theaters with new heated recliner seating. Afterward, journey down the Riverwalk Centre hallway and canoodle over noodles at Mamma Maria’s. Just some of the divine dishes to try are the classic homemade lasagna, chicken milano, lobster ravioli and cranberry tortellini. And of course, a nice bottle of vino is a must.
The Toasted Frog is the best place around to get pickled. By that, I mean their martinis and deep-fried cheesy pickles are so amazing, they’ll make your head spin! Upon exiting the Frog, grab your date’s hand, then stroll down 3rd Street, over and up to Sky’s on the 2nd floor of 322 DeMers. Treat your 5-star sweetie to a 5-star dinner that includes classic cocktails, crab cakes, a king or queen cut of herb roasted prime rib and an out of this world blondie brownie that comes adorned with ice cream and a decadent sea salt caramel sauce.
If you can sneak out of work a little early, start your fun-filled afternoon with a twirl or two through the Town Square outdoor ice rink. The venue may be cool but freshly brewed coffee or hot chocolate from right across the street, at The Ember, will quickly warm you both up. Peruse through some of our unique downtown shops and art galleries…maybe even stop by River City Jewelers or Badman Design and see if there may be a ring (or some other form of bling) that sparks an interest. Go more casual for dinner, at Up North Pizza Pub, with a heart-shaped gourmet pie and game of pool or pinball.
Hang on the south end and try out a couple of our newest dining establishments. Vinyl Taco is the perfect spot for hot tunes and eats. Listen to some of your favorite songs from the good old days when LPs were all the rage. When it comes to the menu, their homemade tortilla chips, roasted tomato salsa and strawberry margaritas make the perfect starter. Follow that up with some yummy street tacos – I highly recommend the carne asada, chicken tinga and shrimp a la parilla, all on fresh corn tortillas. For the perfect ending, head next door to Crooked Pint and order the amazing Chocolate Chip Lucy. They take a large chocolate-chunk cookie, stuff it with cream cheese, then top it off with vanilla ice cream, chocolate and caramel sauces, plus whipped cream!
If you really wanna wow your boo, rent one of the theme-suites or even the penthouse at Canad Inns. Go cowboy and share the Dakota room with your pardner or perhaps a tropical getaway in the South Seas suite is more to your liking. Since all of them have Jacuzzis, you’ll probably prefer to just order up room service from one of Canad’s three restaurants so you can dine while you dip.
