Thanks to many talented local artists and the generous supporters of our arts community, Grand Forks has over 165 works of public art for anyone to enjoy. Through a collaboration of the Public Arts Commission, City of Grand Forks and Visit Greater Grand Forks, a public art registry was created that pinpoints the names, artists and locations of public art in Grand Forks. The #GrandArt movement highlights these wonderful public art pieces contained in the registry, with the overall goal of celebrating and building a strong public arts presence in Greater Grand Forks.
As you visit the public art listed in this directory or discover the other amazing artworks within the region, please post on social media and share your #GrandArt.
Join the movement and become a voice for a more colorful Greater Grand Forks through the arts!
Made of recycled metal and concrete, this six-foot tall “blue head” planter first arrived at the Visitors' Center nearly a decade ago. It was originally re-painted by talented local artist Billy Rerick. As typically happens to all of us sooner or later, this grande dame was due for a little facelift.
When the time came to find a new artist, Executive Director Julie Rygg decided that instead of outsourcing this task, she would stay very close to home. In one of our always productive staff meetings, Marketing Coordinator Alicia Van Eps volunteered herself, along with her mother (Carol Egeland) and aunt (Linda Conneran), for this huge undertaking. Even though neither Alicia nor her family are trained artists, they are all very creative and felt motivated to give it a try. Just like that, Team Amber was formed!
The Downtown Development Association (DDA) alongside the University of North Dakota (UND) worked together in 2022 to beautify Downtown and promote the exceptional people, places, and things that make up our thriving region through the creation of a mural. The project resulted in public artwork that will last for years and creates a landmark for those who live here and visitors alike. The Three Brushketeers are the three local artists who worked on this project!
